Bequeathed to the village by Julia L. Butterfield, wife of Civil War General Daniel Butterfield. On permanent display at the library is the painting "Picnic on the Hudson" by Thomas Rossiter, Hudson River School artist. This work depicts some famous residents of Cold Spring, including the Butterfields, picnicing on the banks of the Hudson.
