Historic and Scenic Roads of Philipstown

Indian Brook Road

This 3 mile trip is broken up into 3 pages for your convenience.

The trip begins at this intersection of Route 9d and Indian Brook Road, shown here, and passes several quaint and beautiful buildings along the way.

This is an original dirt road, but is always kept in very good condition. It gets narrow in parts, don't speed, keep to your right, and honk around several of the blind corners.

Then you pass by the Constitution Marsh Sanctuary with beautiful Indian Brook just past and below this sign. There is parking for only 8 cars at a time, so if you are intending to see the Sanctuary, take the drive first and come back later.

The road winds it's way up towards the falls and the bridge at Route-9.

Sections of the old iron fence still remain from the days when they were used to prevent horses and carriages from sliding off the snow and ice.

Just to the right of the bridge is a path that leads to the falls and the brook that runs steeply to Constitution Marsh Sanctuary.

There is a limited parking area under the bridge, and several unimproved trails. The remnants of the original carriage road crosses here and climbs up the other side towards the Hudson River.
