ENDORSES

EDIE MEEKS

Mary "Edie" Meels has announced that she is runing on the Repblican slate for one of the two open seats on the Philipstown Town Council this fall.

She is widely known throughout the area for her work as a Registered Nurse at the Butterfield Hospital's Operating and Recovery rooms from 1976-1994. She is currently a Clinical Specialist for Sulzer/Spine Tech, teaching new spinal fusion techniques to operating room staffs throughout the Northeast.

A graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, she spent two years with Bishop O'Grady's Mission in Burns Lake, British Columbia, followed by two years in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in Vietnam field hospitals.

"I am proud to be a member of TEAM PHILIPSTOWN," she recently said. "The Council is here to serve all Philiiipstown and should be a leader - a unifying force in the entire area, not a divisive factor. I beliee that every resident of Philipstown should feel represented and that their petitions should be acted upon without delay. I also feel strongly that there is a need for term limits for every Council position. I propose that two 2-year terms be the maximum that can be served consecutively.

"The Council is here to serve all Philipstown and should serve as a leader - a unifying force to the entire area, not a divisive factor.

"Edie" Meeks and her husband, Bill have been Philipstown residents since 1972 and raised their two children, Gwyneth and Bill III here. She still found time to belong to the American Legion, the Putnam County Historical Society, Friends of Boscobel and of the Desmond-Fish Library, the Catfish Pond Association, the Old Road Society of Philipstown, and the Philipstown Garden Club.

"These groups have impressed me with the importance of our heritage from past generations. I pledge to do my part in protecting it.

To sum up her commitment to Philipstown, she says "I pledge to do the very best I can for my constituents in Philipstown and to be responsive to their needs."
