Roger M. Chirico, current Philipstown Highway Superintendent has announced his candidacy for the upcoming 4-year term. Appointed to the position 2 1/2 years ago by the Town Board, he was elected to the unexpired term of the late Joseph Percacillo in 1998.
A 35-year resident of Philipstown, Roger Chirico was born in Crugers and is a graduate of the Hendrick Hudson High School of Montrose. He is a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War.
He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, of the Cold Spring Fire Company #1, and of the Cold Spring Boat Club. He is a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Roger Chirico has had wide experience in the construction field and recently retired after 30 years' membership in the Operating Engineers Local #137.
In addition to his direct experience with a variety of types of equipment in all kinds of construction and maintenance, Chirico counts his service in municipal government as a valuable qualification for his present activity. He served for 10 years as a Trustee for the Village of Cold Spring and for 4 years as its Mayor. During those years he led the Village to modernizr its opperations and introduced many changes.
"I have found the Highway Superintendent's job both exciting and rewarding," says Chirico. "We have added equipment and expanded the projects that can be accomplished by our crew insted of outside contractors, so that Philipstown residents are getting more from their tax dollats. I look forward to further growth in this direction."
Roger Chirico is endorsed by the Republican Party, the Independence Party and the Conservative Party.
