Walter Hoving Home

Objectives

The overall objective of the Home is to initiate a total change of values in the lifestyle among the women it serves. And it is accomplished in an atmosphere of warmth, trust, support and love that most of the ladies have never experienced before coming to the home.

The women are also encouraged to develop individual interests through a structured classroom setting. There are nine levels of work outlined in the Learning Center curriculum.

Some courses included in the curriculum are the following:

The work training program is designed to teach ladies the skills needed to work a job when she finishes at the Home. Each lady is also responsible for taking care of her individual living quarters.

Completion of every level is required in order to participate in a completion ceremony. After completion, each lady is eligible to return to the Home and graduate after a year of serving the Lord and abstaining from drugs and alcohol.

The opportunity for re-entry is available at the Home. This allows a lady to slowly integrate back into society. She is encouraged to work a job or attend school while still living at the Home. This provides support for a lady as she begins to function as a productive individual in the community.

Another important part of the Home is the reconciliation of families. Each month the children of the ladies are able to spend a weekend at the Home to begin rebuilding family relationships that had been shattered through the mother's destructive lifestyle.
