SUPERVISOR MAZZUCA ANNOUNCES DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES' PLATFORM
Supervisor Bill Mazzuca, Councilman Ande Merante and Councilman Al
Hosmer present the following platform that will lead Philipstown into
the new millennium and beyond:
- 1) DEVELOP, adopt and implement a
Town Comprehensive Plan.
- 2) CREATE a citizens committee to develop a strategy of desirable
uses for large - tract, tax-exempt properties prior to
their coming up for sale. Such uses could include combining open space
and research facilities, think tanks or corporate headquarters.
- 3) CREATE economic development zones and commercial parks for
desirable, low-impact businesses by offering zoning and other
incentives. Philipstown could either purchase property or facilitate
the purchase of property for these purposes.
- 4)RE-ZONE the commercial areas along Route 9D, outside the Village
of Cold Spring, allowing modification only with Zoning Board of Appeals
approval.
- 5) UP-ZONE the properties along Route 9D, outside the Village of
Cold Spring, to two acre building lots.
- 6) RE-EXAMINE zonong in Continental Village and Manitou to assist
property owners there who face unique zoning problems.
- 7) RE-EXAMINE commercial zoning along entire Route 9 corridor.
- 8) ENCOURAGE and assist, through a partnership, commercial
establishments along Route 9 to upgrade access and improve the
appearance of their property.
- 9) EXPAND the code enforcement office by adding a half-time
position.
- 10) ENACT a steep slopes law.
- 11) FINALLY, now that most of our drainage problems have been fixed
and the general condition of dirt roads improved, we can adopt a policy
that eliminates the need to pave dirt roads.
We, the Democratic candidates, present these proposals as a
coordinated package for addressing the development of Philipstown. We
invite vigorous and helpful public participation as we move ahead with
these proposals. Together we can adapt to change while preserving the
Philipstown we love.
